Poll Everywhere is an online program that allows you to make live surveys to gather information from people all around the world. Of course, it can also just be used in the classroom. The benefit is that you can see the results live on the screen and capture the data instantaneously. Mind you, you can easily do a survey of a small group of people more easily by simply asking them to raise their hands. So more often than not, the benefit will be in reaching people in different physical locations. Say, you are teaching a combined class with a few other classes, and you want to give everyone a vote, but they are in different locations, or you want to allow them a few days to vote. This would then more easily reach a combined audience. There are some limitations as the default free account only allows a maximum of 25 votes, and unregistered participants, and as the method of voting is done by sending a text message, there are some country restrictions.

Poll Everywhere in Holistic Education
The connections to holistic education for this app are not as clear as some of the other apps/sites featured on this website. One of the biggest draws is in equitable access for everyone - most of the voting is anonymous, so people don't feel too much peer pressure in voting. However, it requires access to a phone with texting capabilities, so that could also be a limitation for some groups, especially younger children. It doesn't really address cognition, except if the nature of the poll itself is done as, say, a quiz, perhaps to survey what people think prior to a learning activity to gauge prior knowledge, or interest. The results could shape the direction of the lesson.
